The History of Halloween
The word 'Halloween' comes from medieval England's All Hallows' Eve, and is
held the day before All Saints' Day. This unique occasion dates back to pre-Christian
Celtic beliefs. It was thought that in the very beginning of November evil spirits
would roam the Earth in response to the diminishing sunlight and onset of Winter.
Thus, festivals were held where sweets and food were offered, and people dressed
up as evil spirits to ward off the ghosts and prevent themselves from being
haunted and possessed.

36.4 million children went trick-or-treating in 2004 (5-13 year olds,
which is titled as 'Elementary School' aged children). This demographic
is declining in America (and the number of trick-or-treaters has dropped
significantly).
