Flag Day E-Cards
Don't forget to send Flag Day E-cards by 6/14/2009. The History of Flag DayFlag Day is the celebration of the adoption of the first American flag on June 14, 1777. It was originally called "Old Glory" and "Stars and Stripes". It is rumored that Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag after George Washington and members from the Continental Congress visited her with their sketch. The American flag has been through several revisions since its conception, mainly altering whenever a new state entered the union and a new star had to be added. The flag's last change was in 1960 after Hawaii became the 50th state.
The White House is one of 8 locations where the American flag can legally be displayed 24 hours. However, many places fly the flag all the time as a patriotic gesture.
