The holiday began to become more organized across the country until it was finally recognized as a national holiday in 1966 by President Lyndon Johnson. Six years later, President Nixon permanently placed Father's Day on the third Sunday of June.The origin of the necktie – one of the highest-selling Father's Day gifts – dates back 2,000 years. There are over 65 million fathers in the United States (fact taken from U.S. Censor Bureau).
